Linda Noskova got her campaign in Beijing up and running with a straight sets win over Elena-Gabriela Ruse. The Czech won the first three games of the match, though Ruse did break back to get back on level terms. Nevertheless, the Wimbledon champion broke again in the 10th game to claim the set, and went on to win six of the next seven games to complete a 6-4 6-1 victory. 

She will face Viktorija Golubic for a place in the round-of-16. The Swiss advanced after a three set win over Peyton Stearns. She broke in the eighth game of the decider and closed it out to seal a 6-4 3-6 6-2 victory. She also beat Elvina Kalieva in the opening round of the tournament.

These two met for the first time earlier this season, with Noskova winning in straight sets at the Billie Jean King Cup. This is likely to be another comfortable victory for the 21-year-old.
