26-year-old Sumit Nagal will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 90th after beating Corentin Moutet from a set down, an excellent result on clay, to reach a rare round of 16 on tour. The Indian won a Challenger title in Chennai back in February off the back of a career-best run to the second round of the Australian Open, suggesting he can make big strides on tour this season, but this looks too steep of a challenge against fourth seed Lorenzo Sonego. Former number 27 Sonego desperately needs a solid run on clay, probably his best surface overall, after struggling to find any sort of consistency for much of the past two seasons. The Italian beat Nagal in three sets in the first round of the Dubai tennis Championships in February to suggest backing Nagal to earn a set is the shrewd option here but the sensible one is taking Sonego to make the last eight.
