THE PREDICTION

World number five Stefanos Tsitsipas is the defending champion here in Mallorca after winning his most recent of nine career ATP titles – and a first on grass – here last summer. The 24-year-old is far from his best on the surface, though, and he comes into this defence distinctly vulnerable after recent early exits to Richard Gasquet in Stuttgart and Nicolas Jarry in Halle last week. 31-year-old Yannick Hanfmann set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 48th this week built mostly on his remarkable run to the quarter-finals of the Italian Open on his favoured clay last month but the German impressed on grass at Halle last week with a competitive defeat to eventual runner-up Andrey Rublev. Tsitsipas should have enough about him to come through this opener on a court that has been kind to him but the Greek is a hard player to back with confidence this season. Take Tsitsipas to win outright or leave this match alone altogether.
