THE PREDICTION

World number seven Stefanos Tsitsipas beat Dominic Thiem in straight sets on Wednesday to get his Vienna campaign underway, reacting well after his shock defeat to Arthur Fils at the European Open last week. The 25-year-old is still in a strong position to qualify for the ATP Finals, where he claimed his most prestigious title in 2019, but just the one title picked up this year at the Los Cabos Open is well below what is expected. 23-year-old Tomas Machac will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of around 63rd after finally coming into some long-awaited form. The Czech reached the quarter-finals of the Stockholm Open before a tight exit to Laslo Djere and he qualified with flying colours here before a solid opener over Aleksandar Vukic. Machac may never have a better opportunity to beat the currently very vulnerable Greek in their first encounter but Tsitsipas should be able to avoid another upset so soon. Consider a one-off on Machac to earn at least a set but the suitably cautious option is taking the same in Tsitsipas’ favour.

BETTING TIP: Tomas Machac to earn at least a set.
