World number 64 Roberto Carballes Baena beat Guido Pella in straight sets on Monday for an excellent start to his Kitzbuhel campaign. The 30-year-old has lost to Stan Wawrinka in each of his last two tournaments on his favoured clay but he claimed a second ATP title on the surface back in April in Marrakech and he will be eager to make the most of this last tour event in his element. World number 72 Sebastian Baez claimed his second title on home clay at the Cordoba Open back in February but he has struggled over the summer, with Monday’s win over Hamad Medjedovic snapping a four-match losing streak. The Argentine took Casper Ruud to three sets in Hamburg last week to look competitive but Carballes Baena has the better recent form in his legs to make this first encounter between the two a difficult call. Back Baez to earn at least a set with a relieving win behind him but lave this result up to chance.
