THE PREDICTION

World number three Coco Gauff has changed a lot since her last match on clay, a quarter-final exit to eventual champion Iga Swiatek at Roland-Garros last June. The 20-year-old was stunned by Sofia Kenin in the first round at Wimbledon last summer to spark a total recalibration in her on-court game and off-court coaching to see her return to tour a month later with a stunning run to the Washington Open. Gauff then claimed a maiden Masters title in Cincinnati before fulfilling her destiny as a teenage Grand Slam champion at the US Open and she backed up that ethic with a hard-graft run to the semi-finals of the Australian Open back in January. It has been a tougher few months since, relatively, but the American has always suggested that clay could end up her favoured surface and the coming swing could be a hugely fruitful one.

World number 134 Sachia Vickery qualified impressively this weekend before an excellent straight-sets upset over Aliaksandra Sasnovich on Monday. The 28-year-old brings very little tour form into this first meeting with Gauff but it could be a choppy start for the US number one if she fails to hit the ground running. Back Gauff to win in two all the same.

TIP: COCO GAUFF TO WIN 2-0
