THE PREDICTION

26-year-old Quentin Halys set a career-high ATP world ranking of 61st in January after a strong run to the quarter-finals of the Auckland Classic and he went toe-to-toe in two tiebreaks against Novak Djokovic the week before. The Frenchman produced a career-best run to the Miami Open in March before defeat to eventual champion Daniil Medvedev and he transitioned impressively on clay, reaching the semi-finals at the Estoril Open before a three-set defeat to eventual champion Casper Ruud. Halys has lost each of his last four first round matches at Roland-Garros but fought well in mots of them and sets look likely to go both ways here against former world number 20 Guido Pella in a first meeting between the two. The Argentine comes into Paris on a protected ranking as he continues to rehabilitate back from a year-long absence but three wins from his last seven matches suggests he is making a steady comeback so far. Back Halys to win outright here backed by a partisan atmosphere at Roland-Garros, where French players are receiving incredible support so far.
