THE PREDICTION
World number 79 Quentin Halys is through to the round of 16 of a Masters tournament for the first time, and on his Miami Open debut, after an excellent straight-sets victory over Mackenzie McDonald backed-up a huge upset over Alex de Minaur in the second round. The Frenchman is enjoying the form of his career at 26 years old after making a successful transition from the challenger circuit through to full-tour life late last season but this looks a very tall order against former world number one Daniil Medvedev. The world number five conceded just three games against Roberto Carballes Baena on Friday before receiving a walkover through to the round of 16 when Alex Molcan was forced to withdraw from the tournament and the rest will be welcome after a long slog to the final of Indian Wells. Medvedev won 19 matches in a row before losing to Alcaraz in the desert and he showed no signs of dwelling on it in his Miami opener.
Halys has played well enough to warrant caution here but Medvedev should be able to win in straight sets. A reasonable alternative could be taking Medvedev to win outright and for at least one tiebreak in the match, with Halys already seeing four this campaign and two against Novak Djokovic in a defeat at Adelaide 1.
