PEDRO CACHIN VS TOMMY PAUL PREDICTION
World number 14 Tommy Paul brings some excellent clay form into Roland-Garros after a run to the semi-finals of the Italian Open two weeks ago, where he took eventual runner-up Nicolas Jarry to three sets before defeat.
The 27-year-old is a solid all-court threat at his best with a tireless game that can frustrate top players on court, proving so by ousting defending champion Daniil Medvedev in Rome and twice stunning Carlos Alcaraz at the Canada Masters in recent seasons.
This could be a tough draw against clay specialist Pedro Cachin despite the 29-year-old’s horrendous 2-13 record for the season so far. The Argentine took Rafael Nadal to three tight sets before defeat at the Madrid Open late last month but he brings a three-match losing streak into Paris to suggest it was a brief respite in an otherwise concerning malaise since winning his maiden ATP title in Gstaad last summer.
Paul should win this in three sets but the sensible, if cautious, concession is an outright call.
