PAVEL KOTOV VS ALEXANDRE MULLER PREDICTION
World number 90 Alexandre Muller beat Richard Gasquet in straight sets on Sunday to build on his impressive, shock run to the last 16 of the Italian Open last week. The 27-year-old came back from a set down to stun Bucharest champion Marton Fucsovics in the first round of Rome but he bettered that with a career-best result over Madrid champion Andrey Rublev before defeat to eventual runner-up Nicolas Jarry.
25-year-old Pavel Kotov is no pushover in these conditions, though, as he brought a career-high ATP world ranking of 57th into Lyon after a decent spell on clay. The Kazakh has needed the likes of Jannik Sinner and Ben Shelton to oust him from his lats two tournaments and he reached the semi-finals of the last ATP 250 he played, just missing out to eventual runner-up Roberto Carballes Baena in Marrakech.
Muller beat Kotov in the semi-finals of Marrakech 12 months ago before finishing runner-up to the aforementioned Carballes Baena in the final but it has taken him an age to rediscover his mojo in 2024. Back the Frenchman to win at least a set to leave the victor up to chance in a likely thriller.
