THE PREDICTION
26-year-old Paula Badosa set a career-high WTA world ranking of second in 2022 after winning the rescheduled Indian Wells the season before. The Spaniard is currently ranked at 73rd on points garnered in a brief flash of form last spring but she has struggled to maintain any sort of form or fitness on tour since, with two of her nine matches in 2024 ending via retirements. One of the few matches she has completed and won this season was over world number 71 Ashlyn Krueger in three sets at the Qatar Masters.
19-year-old Krueger won her maiden WTA title at the Osaka Women’s Open last autumn and she has looked in excellent shape this year despite bringing a 2-6 record into the draw with some really competitive defeats to top opponents like Badosa, Karolina Pliskova and Daria Kasatkina complementing her career-best victory over Caroline Garcia in Dubai last time out. Badosa will be beyond desperate to play well here in the desert, where she won her most prestigious of three titles in a scintillating season, but backing Krueger to earn at least a set looks the shrewd way to avoid a result.
TIP: ASHLYN KRUEGER TO WIN A SET
PAULA BADOSA HAS WITHDRAWN FROM INDIAN WELLS. BACK KRUEGER TO BEAT NADIA PODOROSKA OUTRIGHT.
