World number 152 Pablo Llamas Ruiz is through to his first quarter-final on tour after ousting fellow qualifier David Jorda Sanchis in straight sets on Thursday, having also beaten his compatriot in qualifying. The 21-year-old grabbed a career-best ranking win over in-form Dominik Koepfer on Tuesday to look an up-and-comer on clay but this should be one step too far against the second seed. World number 10 Hubert Hurkacs is far from his best on clay but 12 aces and 69% serve-in against Jan Choinski on Thursday saw him come through unscathed in straight sets to look a decent contender for his first title on the surface. The Pole crashed out early here in Estoril last season but a foothold should see him more solid in this second match, although Llamas Ruiz will be a tougher test than Choinski. Back Hurkacz to come through outright or consider a one-off on this first encounter to ned a decider.
