Novak Djokovic booked his spot in a seventh China Open final after a hard-fought victory over Daniil Medvedev ended in controversy.

The six-time champion pushed his flawless record at the event to 33-0 as the Russian defaulted for hitting a fan in the stands with a ball while the Serb served for the match at 7-5 5-3, 15-15.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion will now face Alex de Minaur for a fifth time after the Aussie progressed when Hubert Hurkacz retired trailing 4-6 2-3.

Djokovic leads the head-to-head 3-1, although it is 1-1 on hardcourts with Nole winning 6-2 6-1 6-2 at the 2023 Australian Open, while Demon triumphed 6-4 6-4 at the United Cup a year later. 

The Serb again looked to struggle physically in his semi-final but he’s still delivering in the big moments and when you factor in his perfect record here, you’d expect it to be seventh heaven for the 39-year-old come the end of this final, particularly as the Aussie doesn't quite have the weapons to hurt him.
