FPL Gameweek 6 – Captain Picks
As the long international break comes to a close and we move closer to the FPL deadline for Gameweek 6 on Saturday morning, we at TSZ have locked down a group of our most appealing captain picks for the next round of Premier League fixtures. We’ve highlighted not just three popular assets when it comes to current ownership, but also a differential option who provides a point of difference for FPL managers.
Popular Options
Pascal Gross (£5.9m) vs SUN (a)
No midfielder has registered more FPL points over the season so far than the experienced Pascal Gross (£5.9m) who only appears to be getting better with age. Across the last five gameweeks, Gross has racked up double figure hauls in three of them, including 31 points since the start of Gameweek 4. Gross backed up his goal and two assists away at Coventry by scoring and setting one up at home to Arsenal.
Unsurprisingly, Gross’ ownership has shot up with him being such a cheap midfield asset who has the potential to accumulate both goals and assists. Just under 30% of managers now own the Brighton star at the time of writing and big things will be expected of the German when his side travel to Sunderland in Gameweek 6.
Bruno Fernandes (£11.9m) vs TOT (H)
Another midfielder who offers high potential for attacking returns is Bruno Fernandes (£11.9m), a premium asset with an extremely high FPL ceiling. He already has a hat-trick to his name this campaign but after a few blanks, will be absolutely desperate to get back on the scoresheet in Gameweek 6 with Man Utd at home to a poor Spurs side.
Fernandes will be on penalties as usual for Michael Carrick’s side and all of his goals for United this season so far have come at Old Trafford. He comes into this match on the back of having accrued two assists across Portugal’s last two international games, with both of them coming against Denmark in Copenhagen.
Riccardo Calafiori (£5.8m) vs LEE (H)
Captaining a defender should be seen as significantly more viable these days in FPL when taking into account the multiple avenues in which they can score points, whether it be def cons, clean sheets or attacking returns. Owned by over half the FPL community, Riccardo Calafiori (£5.8m) ticks these boxes when considering what we’ve seen from him so far in the 2026-27 English Premier League. He has 29 points and is a Premier League starter for an Arsenal backline who have kept three clean sheets in five league fixtures.
Calafiori scored his first goal of the season in the Community Shield against Man City and followed that up with two assists in as many Premier League appearances. Arsenal will be expected by many to keep a clean sheet at home to Leeds in Gameweek 6 and provided they do so, Calafiori will already be on a fast-track to a solid FPL score. Should the Italian hit his def con target or record another attacking return as well, then that score quickly becomes a haul.
Differential Pick
Bukayo Saka (£9.5m) vs LEE (H)
Owned by significantly less FPL bosses compared to Arsenal teammate Calafiori, attacking midfielder Bukayo Saka(£9.5m) has proven many times that when fully fit and in-form, he is one of the top players to own in the game. Saka returns from international duty having shone for England, scoring twice in a 0-7 rout of Croatia. That made it five goals in all competitions for Saka while representing club and country so far this campaign.
The Gunners host Leeds in Gameweek 6 with motivation to bounce back emphatically following their surprise loss at the hands of Brighton last time out. Saka should again have a key role to play offensively and is also expected to be on penalties after scoring from the spot against Sunderland. Averaging over six points per gameweek, FPL managers wanting a differential skipper should consider focusing on Saka.
