THE PREDICTION

Qatar Open eighth seed Ons Jabeur has needed three sets in both of her matches so far to sneak past Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Tereza Martincova as she continue to seek out her best form. The 27-year-old suffered an injury in the Sydney Tennis Classic quarter-final against Anett Kontaveit last month that saw her miss out on the Australian Open and, despite reaching back-to-back quarter-finals since in Dubai and now here, she is yet to fully recover her scintillating best. The Tunisian has drawn probably the shortest straw left in the competition with red-hot fourth seed Kontaveit continuing to blast almost all comers in her way. The 26-year-old won the sixth WTA title of her career at the St. Petersburg Open two weeks ago, making it five titles since the start of 2021. The world number seven is riding a seven-match winning streak from that event after beating Ana Konjuh and in-form Elise Mertens in Qatar.

This is a tough match for both players, though, with Jabeur leading their tour-level head-to-head 3-1, including two victories last season at Masters events in Cincinnati and Indian Wells. If both players were at the peak of the powers the Tunisian may well have come through here but Kontaveit will take some stopping on this streak and the Estonian can be backed to come through the outright winner.
