THE PREDICTION
World number one Novak Djokovic made it 17 wins on the spin with an impressive comeback against a fierce challenge by Andrey Rublev on Saturday. The 36-year-old has dropped sets in each of his last three matches in Paris-Bercy without ever really looking like he was in serious trouble and more of the same can be expected today against world number 17 Grigor Dimitrov, who has played fabulously this week. The 32-year-old stunned Daniil Medvedev in three sets in the second round to suggest a deep run was on the cards but further victories against tough serves to break down in Alexander Bublik, Hubert Hurkacz and a resurgent Stefanos Tsitsipas see the Bulgarian fired up and ready to compete in his most prestigious final since winning the ATP Finals in 2017.
Djokovic leads Dimitrov 11-1 in a vastly convincing head-to-head record that offers little encouragement to the Bulgarian, whose only win came at the Madrid Masters 10 years ago. A win for the Serb will shore up his claim to a record-extending year-end number one spot as well as extend his records here with a seventh Paris Masters title and at Masters overall with this set to be his 40th ATP 1000 trophy. Dimitrov’s victories over Medvedev and Tsitsipas were against a grain we have become accustomed to in recent seasons and there is no doubt he has more of a chance in this 13th encounter than any in the last decade but Djokovic is still the clear, dominant force. Back the Serb to win outright with three sets about as likely as two.
