World number 64 Flavio Cobolli came back from a set down to beat Alejandro Tabilo On Thursday, making amends for his deer-in-headlights defeat to Rafael Nadal in Barcelona last week. The 21-year-old has so far struggled to make a dent on clay so far but he enjoyed some success on the surface on the ITF circuit last year and wins over the likes of Felix Auger-Aliassime and Gael Monfils earlier this season are proof of his growing ability. Cobolli’s biggest ranking win yet came in a huge upset over Nicolas Jarry in the first round of the Australian Open in January, edging past the Chilean in five sets, and this looks an interesting rematch as Jarry brings a three-match losing streak into Madrid. The world number 23 reached the quarter-finals of the Miami Open this time last month but he has been labouring for wins for most of the year. Clay conditions at high altitude certainly suit the powerful Chilean but this is a tough call on form. Take Jarry to earn at least a set but leave this match far from an accumulator.
