THE PREDICTION
World number four Daniil Medvedev overcame a tough assault by Dominik Koepfer in their first set tiebreak before romping home to victory 6-0 in the second. The 28-year-old has so far put in a stellar defence of his Miami Open title, claimed at Jannik Sinner’s expense last season, and it should take one of Sinner or Carlos Alcaraz, who beat him to the Indian Wells title for the second year running, to stop him this campaign.
World number 23 Nicolas Jarry stunned Alcaraz at the Buenos Aires Open in February but he seemed to exhaust himself in the process, with this excellent run to the quarter-finals in Miami a corner turned. The Chilean, also 28, upset in-form Casper Ruud in straight sets on Tuesday to back-up two hard-fought wins over Thiago Seyboth Wild and Jack Draper but Medvedev should be a different animal in these conditions. The Russian will be desperate to cling on to his favoured hardcourt tennis for as long as possible ahead of his least favoured clay but he managed to beat Jarry in two on clay in their only previous encounter five years ago and he is significantly improved here. Back Medvedev to win in straight sets.
