THE PREDICTION

World number 43 Mirra Andreeva burst onto the scene here in Madrid last season with a remarkable run to the round of 16 in only her second ever tournament. The 16-year-old stunned Leylah Fernandez, Beatriz Haddad-Maia and Magda Linette before defeat to eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka but she returned with a vengeance across the Grand Slams last summer, making the third round at Roland-Garros before a three-set exit to Coco Gauff and coming perilously close to the last eight in another tight defeat to Madison Keys at Wimbledon.

28-year-old Taylor Townsend set a career-high WTA world ranking of 57th after recent runs to the third round in Miami and the last 16 in Charleston, where she upset Ekaterina Alexandrova before a tight exit to Victoria Azarenka. The American could spoil the party here against the teenager, who has so far struggled to find that same effortless intensity this season, but back Andreeva to edge through.

TIP: MIRRA ANDREEVA TO WIN
