Flavio Cobolli vs Learner Tien prediction

Flavio Cobolli is making his second official appearance at the Laver Cup for Team Europe. He appeared for the first time in San Francisco last year, losing his singles match against Joao Fonseca. It has been a landmark season for the Italian, as he reached his first Grand Slam final at Roland Garros, losing to Alexander Zverev in five sets. He also advanced to his maiden Masters 1000 semi-final at the Cincinnati Open last month, along with a title in Acapulco earlier in the year. 

His opponent will be Learner Tien. The American is competing at the event for the first time. Tien enjoyed his best run at the US Open last time out, though he did lose in the round-of-16 after a five set loss to Karen Khachanov. Tien’s highlight of the year was his title at the Geneva Open, while he also reached his maiden slam quarter-final in Melbourne right at the start of the campaign. 

The head-to-head is locked at 1-1. Cobolli won their previous meeting at Roland Garros this year in straight sets. Tien is an intelligent player who should be able to perform well in these slower conditions, and he could frustrate Cobolli at times.
