Luis Hernandez: Can "The Stache" come up large in his debut?

Stepping in for Mickey Gall at the eleventh hour, Luis Hernandez (8-0) makes a quick turnaround after winning on the Contender Series to make his UFC debut. Best known for being attacked by Sean Strickland and Chris Curtis in the cage after finishing their team mate and laying on the trash talk in Tuff-N-Uff, "The Stache" is undefeated and boasts a 100% finish rate. The 30 year old American looked impressive during his showing on the Contender Series but has fought pretty mediocre opposition throughout his career to date. When he's not inside the cage, Hernandez moonlights as a Miami-Dade deputy police officer.

Sedriques Dumas: Will Dumas score his first win in over two years?

Resigned to the UFC after being released in the aftermath of a submission defeat to Jackson McVey, Sedriques Dumas (10-5) has not won a fight since a decision victory over Denis Tiuliulin back in 2024. "The Reaper" is 0-3, 1 NC since that result, with stoppage losses to Michal Oleksiejczuk, Donte Johnson, and the aforementioned McVey and a NC against Zach Reese where he was unable to continue after a sickening groin shot. At 3-5, 1 NC across nearly 10 fights with the promotion, eyebrows have been raised as to why the American has been resigned for another shot.

Contested at 205 pounds rather than the pair's actual weight class due to the short notice nature of this bout, this is a rough step up in competition for Dumas. Mickey Gall is probably the only fighter on the entire roster that I would pick "The Reaper" to beat, and that's largely because he was coming off a lay-off of nearly two years.

Despite an impressive showing on the Contender Series, Hernandez doesn't look to be be a particularly elite prospect. However, I think he's good enough to take out Dumas in his debut. He hasn't fought the best levels of competition throughout his career but he's still a proven finisher; the exact mold of fighter that has been beating and stopping Dumas as of late.

Dumas has a considerable size and reach advantage heading into this one, but he's proven to be such an unreliable pick that it's going to sway me into believing he scores the upset here. I believe his best chance to win this is to score a shock KO in the early goings, and considering that he hasn't knocked anybody out since a 1-0 fighter on the regional scene back in 2022, the signs are not good.

I see Hernandez forcing this one to the mat and finishing by submission in fairly short order, likely via rear naked choke.

Prediction: Luis Hernandez to win by submission
