Vanessa Demopoulos: Can "Lil' Monster" snap a three fight skid?

Exotic dancer turned MMA fighter, Vanessa Demopoulos (11-8), enters this matchup in dire need of a win, having lost three fights in a row to Jaqueline Amorim, Talita Alencar, and Jamey-Lyn Horth. She’s 5-5 under the UFC banner since making the jump from LFA back in 2021, where she earned a short notice call up despite coming up short on the Contender Series. While she can be quite aggressive on the feet, Demopoulos is primarily a grappler and holds a black belt in BJJ; four of her five professional finishes have come by way of submission. 

Yazmin Jauregui: How will the Mexican prospect look in her return?

3-2 since joining the promotion as an undefeated prospect, Yasmine Jauregui (11-2) returns for her first bout in over two years. The 27 year old Mexican was last seen in action at UFC 306, losing to Ketlen Souza via RNC after being dropped in the early goings. With seven KOs to her name, Jauregui joined the UFC with the reputation as a knockout artist, but only has one finish in five UFC bouts, a GNP stoppage over Istela Nunes. By contrast, she’s been finished decisively in both of her losses, getting submitted by the aforementioned Souza and losing by first round TKO to Denise Gomes.

These are ridiculous odds. Demopoulos may be on a three fight skid, but Jauregi hasn’t fought in over two years and got brutally stopped in her last outing; she should not be this big of a favorite heading into this one.

With that being said, I do think that she’s going to take this one. The Mexican’s only losses in the UFC are to Denise Gomes and Ketlen Souza; two defeats that have aged pretty well in light of recent results. She has really high output when she’s on form and has excellent takedown defence to boot, to say nothing of a 5” reach advantage heading into this one.

Jauregui has only lost to heavy hitters who are able to march through her offence to land bombs on her; a mold that Demopoulos simply does not fit. Moreover, “Lil Monster” simply doesn’t look to be a UFC caliber fighter; she could quite easily be 0-6 since her last clear win considering that her two victories in that stretch were ostensibly robberies when you take a look at the numbers.

There’s always a chance that Jauregui is foiled by ring rust upon her return after a lengthy absence but outside of a complete fall off, I just don’t see a path to victory for Demopoulous here. Jauregui pieces her up across three rounds to earn a convincing decision in her comeback.
