Norma Dumont: Can "The Immortal" regain momentum against a hated rival?

A loss to the surging Joselyne Edwards last time out snapped what had been a six fight win streak for Norma Dumont (13-3), pushing her UFC record to 9-3. “The Immortal” has been with the promotion since 2020, rebounding from a rough KO loss to Megan Anderson in her debut to become a staple of the women’s bantamweight division, earning wins over former champions and title challengers like Germaine de Randamie and Irene Aldana. Dumont is primarily a striker, leaning on her sanda background to potshot her opponents at range.

Ailin Perez: Will the UFC's resident twerker add to her impressive win streak?

Undefeated in the UFC since a submission loss in her debut, Ailin Perez (13-2) enters this fight riding a six fight win streak, most recently dispatching Macy Chiasson by decision in February. Best known for her trademark twerking celebration, Perez has proven to be a relentless wrestling threat, averaging 4.90 takedowns every 15 mins across seven fights in the promotion. She originally began her martial arts journey with striking disciplines, but now primarily uses her standup to close the distance, secure takedowns, and work from top position.

I’ve leaning towards Perez in this bad blood matchup. The Argentinian is riding a six fight win streak and has looked pretty dominant as of late, using her excellent wrestling to convincingly outwork her opponents.

Dumont has pretty solid takedown defence but Perez is the type of fighter who will shoot until she eventually gets her down. “The Immortal” has decent output on the feet, but doesn’t have the power to deter Perez, a state of affairs evidenced by zero KOs as a professional. She could conceivably outstrike Perez if this one doesn’t hit the mat, but “Fiona” has scored at least one takedown in all of her seven UFC bouts to date, so I wouldn’t bet on it.

MMA math is notoriously unreliable, but it’s also worth noting that Dumont is fresh off a loss to Joselyne Edwards; a fighter who Perez soundly dominated en route to a decision victory in 2024. Dumont also lost to Macy Chiasson all the way back in 2022, another fighter who Perez ran a wrestling clinic on in her most recent appearance.

Throw in her current momentum along with the fact that Dumont is coming off a loss and it’s clear to see why she’s a slight favorite. The pick is Perez by decision.
