MIRRA ANDREEVA VS PEYTON STEARNS PREDICTION
World number 38 Mirra Andreeva overcame in-form Victoria Azarenka in three thrilling sets late on Thursday night to further prove her credentials both on this surface and at major tournaments. The 17-year-old has matched her debut run to the third round here last season, where she took a set form Coco Gauff before defeat, and she has already bettered her run to the last 16 in Madrid last April with a quarter-final exit, once again to Aryna Sabalenka, one year on.
22-year-old Peyton Stearns is practically as new to the WTA tour as Andreeva, although her greater experience from US college stardom has provided her the tools for battle that saw her stun the field at the Rabat Open last week. Stearns also reached the third round here last spring before a hammering by Daria Kasatkina but she will be elated having avenged that defeat over the Russian on Thursday in vastly impressive straight sets.
The Roland-Garros crowd will likely pull in rising starlet Andreeva’s direction but Stearns brings serious momentum of her own into their second encounter and she won their first, in three sets, at the Dubai Masters in February. Her gruelling late-night match against Azarenka could boost Andreeva’s resolve as much as hamper her physically for this likely scrap so back Stearns to earn at least a set to leave the result up to chance.
