World number 78 Ugo Humbert played six games with compatriot Gael Monfils on Wednesday before his compatriot was forced to retire injured and that leaves him well rested ahead of this intriguing clash with Miomir Kecmanovic. The Frenchman set a career-high ATP world ranking of 25th after winning the Halle Open in 2021 but he is only just showing signs of recovery from a horror season last year, due in large part to contracting covid-19 at the Australian Open. World number 35 Kecmanovic reached the quarter-finals here last season before defeat to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz but he takes a three-match losing streak into this opener since finishing runner-up to Taylor Fritz at the Delray Beach Open last month. Humbert has won each of their last three encounters to level an odd head-to-head record at 3-3 with the Serb but the pair have not played since the summer of 2021, when Humbert was at his peak.
