THE PREDICTION

World number 58 Miomir Kecmanovic has endured a tough start to 2024 despite an excellent run to the round of 16 at the Australian Open, with the Serb winning back to back matches just once since. The 24-year-old can feel hard done-by after recent early draws against Grigor Dimitrov and Casper Ruud following strong opening wins but there seems to be a lack of confidence in his game that Brandon Nakashima, currently working his way back from a poor spell, can expose.

22-year-old Nakashima qualified as the top seed this week to build some momentum in Rome and he was the last player to beat new Madrid champion Andrey Rublev on clay, doing so en-route to the last 16 at the Barcelona Open in an impressive week. Kecmanovic beat the American in straight sets in their only previous encounter, back when both players were performing much better in 2022, but this second clash is a really tough call. Take Kecmanovic to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.

TIP: MIOMIR KECMANOVIC TO WIN A SET
