THE PREDICTION

Former world number six Matteo Berrettini looks to be finding some consistent fitness on tour after a really troubling past 12 months. The current world number 38 burst into form at Wimbledon last month before losing in four sets to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz but it is even more encouraging that the Italian has been able to play again so soon, beating Gregoire Barrere in straight sets on Monday, without any sign of breaking down. World number eight Jannik Sinner earned a new milestone last month with a brilliant run to the semi-finals at Wimbledon before a straight-sets defeat to Novak Djokovic, although he did so without beating anyone ranked inside the top 70. The 21-year-old has actually been struggling on tour a little more than his run in SW19 lets on, with his last serious set of results coming at the Monte-Carlo Masters, and a first meeting with his friend, compatriot and idol here is a very tough first match back since mid July. Leave this match out of an accumulator but consider taking Berrettini, a sleeping giant, to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance. Adding at least one tiebreak seems a reasonable risk.
