Former world number 12 Qiang Wang is yet to drop a set this week in Guadalajara, with just 12 games conceded over three victories. The 30-year-old will face Marie Bouzkova next, with the Czech coming off an impressive dismissal of defending Abierto Zapopan champion Sara Sorribes Tormo in straight sets on Friday. Qiang Wang won the only previous meeting with Marie Bouzkova in straight sets at the Wuhan Open back in 2019 but Bouzkova’s draw this week has been fraught with danger and she has performed admirably to come through. Defeating the defending champion would make her the favourite here for most but Wang’s recent form at the Australian Open and her record against the Czech makes backing the Chinese to win at least a set seem the more sensible move here.
