It was lucky 13 for Mark Selby last year as he claimed Champion of Champions glory on his 13th attempt in this non-ranking tournament. Not only that, but it was staged in front his home crowd in Leicester, and the event has returned to the Mattioli Arena this year.
Selby, who defeated Judd Trump 10-5 in the final 12 months ago, began the 2026-27 season in fine fashion by winning his fourth China Open title, and he went on to reach the final of the British Open in September.
Alfie Burden was a surprise winner of the Shoot Out last year, which secured his place in the Champion of Champions for the second year running after 2025 World Seniors Championship success saw him make his debut last year.
The 49-year-old will feel he has a chance over this short format, but Selby knows what it takes to navigate these early rounds. The defending champion is a clear favourite here.
