Mark Selby vs Wu Yize prediction

Mark Selby's first Crucible win in three years daw saw him thrash an off-colour Jak Jones 10-2 in the first round, with the four-time champion doing a professional job without ever really needing to hit top gear.

The world number seven admitted to nerves in his opener, but with the confidence of having won the UK Championship, Champion of Champions and Championship League this season, will now feel he can settle into the tournament.

In a huge clash of styles, Selby will now take on the eye-catching Wu Yize, whose attacking brand of snooker has won him many fans in his young career.

The tenth seed's talents were on full show as he matched Selby's first-round score by beating fellow Chinese youngster Lei Peifan 10-2, knocking in two centuries and three further 80+ breaks to register his first Crucible win.

Selby has won all six of the pair's previous meetings, including four this year alone in the short-format Championship League. The longer match at the Crucible should allow Wu to find his rhythm, but Selby is an expert at making life difficult for free-flowing opponents.

This has the potential to be a ground-breaking victory for Wu Yize against one of snooker's most established stars, but the likelihood is that Selby will use all his table craft to overcome the young challenger.
