Wu Yize vs Hossein Vafaei prediction
Talented youngster Wu Yize overcame the challenge of four-time champion Mark Selby in the second round, holding off the Crucible veteran to emerge as a 13-11 winner, and will now compete in his first World Snooker Championship quarter-final.
The 22-year-old, who won the International Championship in November, had to dig deep in the final few frames as errors crept into both players' games, but he will now fancy his chances of going even deeper in the tournament.
Standing in his way, however, is an inspired opponent who has just eliminated the world number one.
Also appearing in his first Crucible quarter-final, Hossein Vafaei produced some superb snooker in the final session to defeat Judd Trump 13-12 on Monday evening, becoming the first middle-eastern player to reach this stage of the tournament.
Vafaei has displayed a steel so far that perhaps Wu Yize is still learning, and he certainly closed out his own second-round win with more aplomb than his Chinese opponent. We think that composure in the vital moments could prove the difference here, with the Iranian qualifier fancied to edge a close contest.
