Mark Allen vs Barry Hawkins prediction
Mark Allen displayed all his fighting qualities to see off former champion Kyren Wilson 13-9 in the second round, and will now feature in his sixth Crucible quarter-final.
The world number 14 burst out of the blocks to lead 5-0, but then surrendered six straight frames to trail the 2024 winner. However, the Pistol dug deep when it mattered most to progress to a 23rd career meeting with Barry Hawkins.
Hawkins reached his first Crucible quarter-final for eight years after defeating three-time champion Mark Williams 13-9 - the second Welshman he has eliminated at this year's event after his first-round triumph over Matthew Stevens.
Allen leads Hawkins 12-10 when it comes to career meetings, although they haven't faced each other since Hawkins won 6-5 in their 2024 UK Championship semi-final.
This is a tough match to call between two fairly evenly-matched players. You feel that Allen maybe has a higher ceiling, but Hawkins is such a consistent operator that he is impossible to write off. Either way, it is likely to be a close match and one that is likely to go over 21.5 frames.
Mark Allen vs Barry Hawkins tip: Over 21.5 frames
