THE PREDICTION

22-year-old Varvara Gracheva will break the top 50 on tour for the first time after upsetting an admittedly out-of-sorts Ons Jabeur in straight sets on Friday. The Russian is yet to drop a set this week after coming through qualifying as the top seed there but she looks set to wave goodbye to qualifying for the time being after some excellent form over the last few tournaments. Gracheva made the round of 16 at Indian Wells last time out before falling to eventual champion Elena Rybakina but she has beaten two top 10 players in as many weeks to suggest it will take some top quality beat her in Miami. World number 105 Magdalena Frech came through to the second round as a lucky loser after Shuai Zhang was forced to withdraw from the tournament and she made full use of her second chance to beat Erika Andreeva from a set down. This looks too steep a climb, though, in a first meeting with Gracheva. Back the Russian to win in straight sets.
