THE PREDICTION

22-year-old Emma Navarro looks set to be seeded at a Grand Slam for the first time at next week’s Australian Open after an incredible rise up the rankings over the past few months. The American reached the semi-finals of the San Diego 500 and round of 16 at the Guadalajara Masters late last year before putting in some graft on the ITF circuit to bring a career-high WTA world ranking of 31st into 2024, with last week’s semi-final exit to Auckland champion Coco Gauff very encouraging for her chances here in Hobart. World number 72 Magdalena Frech found her own best form last summer on her favoured grass and she beat Navarro in three sets in the first round of the US Open in their first encounter. An impressive comeback over Sara Sorribes Tormo on Tuesday is an eye-catching result but back this all-new version of Navarro to edge through to the quarter-finals.

TIP: EMMA NAVARRO TO WIN
