20-year-old Luca Van Assche beat Arthur Fils to the French Open Boy’s Singles title here back in 2021 but he has struggled to push on, with Fils enjoying the rising-star limelight since. World number 103 Van Assche brings an average 7-10 record into Roland-Garros and some fitness concerns after pulling out of Barcelona last month, with his last match an impressive three-set exit to Sebastian Baez in Madrid in late April.
Former number 10 Denis Shapovalov is currently languishing just inside the top 120 after a woeful 2023 was ended early by injury but there have been some promising signs on clay so far this swing.
