THE PREDICTION
World number 24 Lorenzo Musetti has endured a woeful spell on tour since the start of the hardcourt swing and he will be chomping at the bit to return to his favoured clay next month. The 22-year-old showed some brief flashes of encouraging form last time out at Indian Wells, beating an out-of-sorts Denis Shapovalov before a competitive loss to Holger Rune, but it would not be a surprise to see him crash out at the earliest opportunity here as he has done in three of his last four tournaments.
World number 39 Roman Safiullin beat Musetti to reach his maiden ATP tour final at the Chengdu Open last September, where he took Alexander Zverev all the way in a three-set defeat, but he has struggled to find his best tennis since an excellent run to the semi-finals of the Brisbane 500 in January. The Russian got his Miami campaign underway well with a straight-sets victory over Diego Schwartzman on Thursday and he can be backed to double down with an outright win here.
