The 24-year-old reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon two years ago and then the US Open last summer but she is seeking her first victory in Paris after losing each of her three appearances here so far. World number 90 Katie Volynets is a promising up-and-comer on tour who upset Veronika Kudermetova in three sets at the Australian Open in January before defeat in the third round to Shuai Zhang. The 21-year-old has some eye-catching results off the tour on clay coming into Paris but a four-match losing streak at tour-level suggests this will be too steep a challenge. Back Samsonova to win outright on her least favourite surface but a taking that elusive first win will boost her stock here significantly.
