THE PREDICTION

World number 12 Emma Raducanu burst onto the world stage at Wimbledon last season with a stunning run to the round of 16 as a wildcard ended by breathing difficulties. Soon after, Raducanu made history with a miraculous run to the US Open title without dropping a set, becoming the first qualifier to win in New York, catapulting her fledgling career into the stratosphere. Since then Raducanu has struggled with a myriad of injuries and her fitness coming into Roland-Garros is questionable to say the least, although she impressed on her first clay swing over the last few tournaments before back issues forced her out of the Italian Open. 19-year-old Raducanu was sitting her A-levels this time last season and she is yet to complete a full year on the WTA tour.

Raducanu faces a player making her Grand Slam debut even younger than she did as 17-year-old Linda Noskova qualified brilliantly this week in Paris, taking out former world number 45 Anna Blinkova in straight sets en-route. The Czech should have been awarded a wildcard for winning last season’s Roland-Garros Girls’ Singles title but doing it the hard way makes her dangerous here. Leave Raducanu’s matches out of accumulators for the time being whilst her fitness continues to concern but take the Brit outright here in a tougher-than-first-appears draw.
