THE PREDICTION

Former world number one Angelique Kerber reached the round of 16 at Indian Wells in March to prove a return to somewhere near the top of the sport is possible, although a three-match losing streak since maintains that it will be tough. The 36-year-old was never at her best on clay, with her counter-punching game preferring the whippier conditions of grass and hard, but she is well capable of challenging most players anywhere at her best. Former number 26 Lauren Davis ended her season early last September through injury and she has yet to win a match since coming back to tour in April. It is well worth leaving this match out of an accumulator as both players seek to steady their ships but it is otherwise notable that the pair share a 1-1 head-to-head in which Davis has earned at least a set in both. Consider that option, with the American in her element on clay, or leave this one alone altogether.

TIP: LAUREN DAVIS TO WIN A SET
