THE PREDICTION

World number 73 Tomas Martin Etcheverry conceded just four games to Pavel Kotov on Thursday to make an encouraging start to his Miami Open campaign and the Argentine impressed in a three-set defeat to Andy Murray at Indian Wells last time out. Etcheverry finished runner-up to Nicolas Jarry in his first ever tour final at the Chile Open earlier this month and it will be interesting to see how far he can go on the incoming clay swing next month. World number 16 Karen Khachanov lost in three sets to in-form Alejandro Davidovich Fokina at Indian Wells last time out but the Russian improved on his previous tournament as he looks to recover from the exhaustion of reaching the semi-finals of the Australian Open back in January. A first meeting between the two could well see three sets with both players keen to hug the baseline and return any ball that moves so back Khachanov to win outright here or consider the risk on Etcheverry to snatch at least a set.
