THE PREDICTION
23-year-old Thiago Seyboth Wild brought a career-high ATP world ranking of 65th into Indian Wells after a decent few weeks on the South American clay swing and he has so far looked imperious, conceding just nine games in three matches from qualifying through to the second round. The Brazilian was a junior star with plenty of promise he has yet to fulfil on tour, although he proved what he can do on his favoured clay last summer when he stunned Daniil Medvedev in five sets. World number 15 Karen Khachanov looks too steep of a challenger here, though, as a genuine dark horse at Indian Wells following his Qatar Open title last month. The 27-year-old lost from a set up to Jiri Lehecka in Dubai the following week but two hardcourt titles claimed within six months says Khachanov should need top 30 quality at least to oust him from Indian Wells, particularly as he has pedigree at this level as Paris Masters champion in 2018. Back Khachanov to win outright, with Seyboth Wild deserving real caution.
