THE PREDICTION

25-year-old Casper Ruud moved back up to world number six after an excellent week in Monte-Carlo saw him beat world number one Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals before missing out on the title to Stefanos Tsitsipas. Ruud became the first Norwegian to beat a world number one on tour, seeing off an out-of-sorts Djokovic to claim his own personal first ever top three victory, but a flat performance against Tsitsipas suggests he is struggling with finals after losing each of his last five on tour.

World number 33 Jordan Thompson handed Ruud one of those defeats to lift his maiden ATP title at the Los Cabos Open in February, capping off an excellent improvement in his game over the past 12 months. The Aussie is at his best on the faster surfaces, with the incoming grass swing likely to be fruitful, but a straight-sets victory over Jaume Munar on Wednesday says he can be competitive against Ruud in the Norwegian’s element. The pair have shared plenty of battles amidst their 2-2 head-to-head record, including a five-set win apiece, but back Ruud to have too much in his favoured conditions.

TIP: CASPER RUUD TO WIN
