THE PREDICTION
18-year-old Alex Michelsen will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 153rd after beating Mackenzie McDonald in impressive straight-sets on Friday, backing up some eye-catching results over defending champion Maxime Cressy and James Duckworth. The American made his tour debut at the Mallorca Championships on grass before losing to eventual champion Christopher Eubanks in three sets and that result has aged well considering the heights Eubanks has reached since. Four-time Newport champion John Isner came back from a set down to upset the top seed Tommy Paul on Friday, though, in what is his best result on tour by some way this season. The 38-year-old is finally slowing up after all these years but his experience on US soil, on which he has won 14 ATP titles, and particularly grass should see him navigate a way past this tricky youngster. Michelsen is an intriguing anomaly with nothing to lose here but facing Isner’s world famous serve for the first time should prove too challenging. Take Isner to earn at least a set to leave the winner up to chance.
