THE PREDICTION

World number 33 Joao Sousa reached the final of the Geneva Open this week before losing to the defending champion Casper Ruud. The 33-year-old has found some excellent form on his favoured clay this year, seemingly from out of the blue, winning the fourth ATP title of his career at the Pune Open back in February. The Portuguese was riding a poor stretch of results into Geneva but wins over Richard Gasquet, Nikoloz Basilashvili and a well-contested defeat to Ruud put him at a level capable of making inroads at Roland-Garros but he will face a tricky new prospect in 20-year-old Chun-Hsin Tseng. Tseng will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 109th after qualifying with gusto this week and he has enjoyed some great success on the Challenger circuit this season. The Taiwanese lost his Grand Slam debut at the Australian Open back in January, in three sets to Oscar Otte, but this could come closer if Sousa struggles to recalibrate. Back the Portuguese to win outright here but this could be a coupon buster worth leaving out of an accumulator.
