World number 18 Nicolas Jarry came back from a set down to beat Matteo Arnaldi in a really tough opening fixture at the Adelaide International and it does not get any easier here. World number 32 Jiri Lehecka has been struggling to find his best form in recent months but a three-set victory over Dusan Lajovic backs up an assured opener on Tuesday that should build confidence and he impressively took a set from Novak Djokovic in defeat at the United Cup last week. The 22-year-old produced the run of his career so far with a quarter-final exit to Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Australian Open this time last season and he could be about to rediscover that form on his favoured hardcourts. Jarry has laboured to victory a few times already this season but the grit that saw him enjoy a career-best season in 2023 is still there. Back the Chilean to earn at least a set as the likelier of two very capable victors of this first encounter.
