Former world number one Venus Williams made a return to the WTA tour last week at the Citi Open where she took the first set before losing in three to Rebecca Marino. The 42-year-old is a seven-time Grand Slam champion with 49 WTA titles overall, her most recent coming back in 2016, but she is yet to win the Canadian Open. Williams will be the star attraction in Toronto alongside her sister Serena and she has a reasonable chance of giving the fans what they want here against Jil Teichmann, The world number 21 has lost each of her last four matches on tour, stretching back to a big run to the round of 16 at Roland-Garros, and despite reaching a career-high WTA world ranking of 21st she failed to qualify for the Silicon Valley Classic altogether last week. The Swiss should have enough to outlast Williams over three sets but backing the American to win at least one could be the shrewd move here, probably the first.
