World number four Jessica Pegula will begin her China Open campaign in the second round after receiving a bye as the fourth seed following her run to the Tokyo Open final. The 29-year-old beat in-form Maria Sakkari in straight sets in the semi-finals to look the solid favourite in Tokyo but she fell foul of a complete performance by Veronika Kudermetova on Sunday. Pegula is more than capable of rolling on through this first encounter with world number 39 Anna Blinkova, as she did so in their first meeting at Charleston Open back in April, but caution could be the best option here after Blinkova stunned Donna Vekic on Saturday. Back Pegula to win outright inside an accumulator or in straight sets on its own.
