THE PREDICTION

World number 93 Jessica Bouzas Maneiro qualified for her Masters debut the hard way this weekend, beating Claire Liu and Sachia Vickery to bring some solid momentum into this huge opportunity. The 21-year-old reached the final of an ITF event on Spanish clay two weeks ago to suggest she is building up to a tour breakthrough and facing former number two Paula Badosa has proven fruitful for many early hopefuls in recent times given the sheer amount of retirements.

26-year-old Badosa beat Diana Shnaider in straight sets at this stage of the Stuttgart Open last week and she impressed against best friend Aryna Sabalenka in a three-set battle before having to retire late on. It was the third retirement this season, with two further withdrawals in Doha and Indian Wells before the start of the tournaments, as she continues a very concerning struggle to regain any sort of consistent fitness and that makes leaving her matches alone wise at this moment in time. Otherwise, Badosa announced herself as a rising star here back in 2021, reaching the semi-finals before defeat to world number one Ash Barty, and if she is fit to play she should be reaching the second round in two.

TIP: PAULA BADOSA TO WIN 2-0
