JESPER DE JONG VS CARLOS ALCARAZ PREDICTION
World number three Carlos Alcaraz conceded just four games to lucky loser J.J. Wolf on Sunday but two of those were breaks of serve, suggesting the Spaniard is still in need of match practice after a short injury absence.
The 21-year-old has played just five matches on clay after a choppy run to the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open was ended by eventual champion Andrey Rublev earlier this month and it remains to be seen if his recent forearm injury has rehabbed well enough for him to challenge for the title in Paris.
World number 176 Jesper de Jong will put up a much sterner test than Wolf did after claiming the biggest win of his career in five sets over Jack Draper. The 23-year-old qualified with aplomb last week, without dropping a set, and he impressed with some front-foot tennis against Draper either side of a lengthy rain delay.
Back Alcaraz to win their first encounter in straight sets all the same but it would be suitably cautious to take the Spaniard outright inside an accumulator.
