THE PREDICTION

World number nine Ons Jabeur snapped a five-match losing streak with a much-needed comeback over Ekaterina Alexandrova on Wednesday, with an impressive 7-1 tiebreak perhaps kick-starting her season. The 29-year-old won the Madrid Masters in 2022 to prove her credentials on clay, backed up by victory in Charleston last spring, but injuries have hampered her season so far and her second-successive defeat at Wimbledon remains a concern for her mentality.

28-year-old Jasmine Paolini brought a career-high WTA world ranking of 14th into Stuttgart after a fabulous shock run to the Dubai Masters title in February but defeats to Anastasia Potapova and Emma Navarro in March have limited her momentum since. The Italian conceded just one game to compatriot Sara Errani on Tuesday but facing a hungry, and so far hopefully fit, Ons Jabeur will be a serious step-up in quality. Jabeur has failed to win back-to-back matches since claiming her fifth WTA title at the Ningbo Open last September, so take Paolini to win at least a set to leave the victor up to chance – despite trailing the Tunisian 0-2 in their head-to-head.

TIP: JASMINE PAOLINI TO WIN A SET
